Boom Box is a free bomberman-style browser game set inside a wooden toy box. Four fighters start in the four corners of a grid packed with crates. Each of them can walk the lanes between fixed pillars and drop bombs. A bomb waits 2.4 seconds, then blasts in a plus shape, breaking the first crate it reaches in each direction and knocking out any fighter in its path. The last fighter standing wins the round and gets a star.
The fighters are toys: Gnorman the garden gnome, Toasty the angry toaster, Sir Quacks the duck in a top hat and Inky the octopus. Rounds are short. You can play one after another, with each fighter's stars adding up on the round-over card.
Boom Box is made for sitting next to someone. In 2 Players mode, Player 1 plays Gnorman with W A S D and R, and Player 2 plays Toasty with the arrow keys and Enter. In 1 Player mode you play Gnorman with either set of keys against three bots. Either way, bots fill the empty corners so there are always four fighters in the box.
The bots are careful. They see where every bomb will hit, including chain reactions and the closing walls, and they only drop a bomb when they know a safe way out. They go for power-ups first, then crates, then other fighters. Beating them means changing the board faster than they can react, which the strategy guide explains step by step.
About a third of the crates you break leave a power-up: more bombs, a bigger blast, or more speed. Blasts burn power-ups lying on the floor, so grabbing them quickly matters. Bombs also block the way. Nobody can walk onto a bomb once it's down, which is how you trap another fighter in a dead end.
After 60 seconds a banner says HURRY! and metal blocks start dropping from the sky in a spiral, starting in the top-left corner and turning clockwise toward the middle. The next cells glow red before a block lands, and anyone under one is out. The arena fills in under 50 seconds, so no round drags on.
On wavebattler.com you can also play Boom Box online. One player hosts and shares a 6-digit code, and up to three friends type it in. Each friend takes over one of the bot fighters, and anyone who leaves is replaced by a bot again. There is no sign-up.
PS5 DualSense and Xbox controllers work in Boom Box: the stick or D-pad moves, and ✕, □ or R1 drops a bomb. Settings has a live controller tester and lets you choose which controller is which player. Full screen is ⌘ or Ctrl plus Enter. Boom Box is made for computers; it doesn't have a phone layout.
